You Already Know What Is Happening

September 04, 2026•3 min read

This is not an explanation of your situation. You have had enough of those.

By the time somebody is in this position they have usually been told the same thing by four different people.

The lender has told them. Somebody from a collections department has told them, more than once, in the tone people use when they have said it a hundred times that week. A law firm has told them in writing. And somebody in the family has told them, which is often the worst one.

So we are not going to tell you again. You know. You have known for months.

What Nobody Asks

Here is the part that tends to go unsaid: none of those people are on your side, and that is not a criticism of them. It is simply their position. The lender has a process. The collections department has a script. The law firm has a client and it is not you.

Every one of those conversations has been about what is going to happen to you.

Not one of them has been about what you want to happen.

The Cost Nobody Names

There is a cost to this situation that does not appear on any statement, and in our experience it is the one doing the most damage.

It is what it costs to carry it alone.

People in this position stop telling their family the truth about where things stand. They stop opening post. They rehearse conversations at three in the morning. They start to organise their whole week around not thinking about a date.

That is exhausting in a way that has nothing to do with money, and it goes on for months, and nobody ever asks about it.

What We Are Actually For

We are usually the first voice in this that is not attached to the outcome the way the others are.

That is the entire difference and we would rather state it plainly than dress it up. We are not the bank. We are not collecting anything. We are not sending you a further notice.

We are people who have seen a great many of these, who can find out where things actually stand, and who will tell you honestly what we think — including if we think we are not the right people to help you, which we will say early rather than late.

What You Do Not Have To Do

You do not have to catch anything up. You do not have to have the money. You do not have to have a plan, or have read the paperwork, or have told your family.

You do not have to decide anything by the end of the call. There is no version of this where somebody pushes you.

Where It Starts

With a conversation about where things actually stand — nothing signed, nothing committed to, nothing you have to prepare for.

If there is a way through it, you will know sooner. If there is not, you will know that sooner too, and knowing sooner is worth something on its own.
